Suspension of benefits

Suspension of benefits means that you become ineligible for unemployment benefits for a certain period.

Your benefits may be suspended during your application process as well as while you are registered with ALS.

Suspension prior to registering with ALS
Your unemployment benefits will be suspended for 8 weeks if you:

  • Are dismissed from a job due to breach of contract
  • Resign from a job without valid reason

Suspension after registering with ALS
Your unemployment benefits may be suspended if you refuse to accept to a job offered by ALS. If you refuse to accept a job offer, you are required to inform ALS of the reason for your refusal.

ALS will assess the validity of this reason. If ALS deems your reason for refusal is not valid, your benefits may be suspended for 4, 8 or 12 weeks.
